If you do decide to holiday in the Kenmare/Sneem region with your family then this post is to give you some insight and ideas on things to do in the region.
Kenmare is a lovely unique town with a really quaint setting. If you are staying self catering in the area there is a large supervalu (supermarket) in the town. Next to the supermarket is a nice playground for kids. Cafes, bars and restaurants are in abundance in Kenmare and on a nice day, tables and chairs are moved to footpaths creating a real holiday atmosphere 😎
The park hotel in Kenmare is quite famous and in a really beautiful setting with the convenience of being in the town centre. We often go there for a drink and a walk with the children but i wouldn't chose to stay there with kids in tow..😳 It's on the list though for when the kids move out!
Another good family option if you want to be central to Kenmare town is the Kenmare bay hotel. They have houses as well as hotel accommodation, leisure centre, kids club etc. (www.kenmarebayhotel.com)
Our favourite beach in the area is the one at Derrynane. Derrynane house and gardens is the perfect place to spend a day with the family. Beautiful well kept gardens surround the house, courtyard and coffee shop and a short walk leads to an idyllic beach and coastal walk.
Closer to Parknasilla, in the village of Sneem there are lovely cafes and bars where apparently they also serve Gin...
The Sneem hotel is another good family hotel option. More budget friendly. They offer self catering as well as hotel accommodation. Unfortunately there is no pool ❎
It's a great place to bring the kids for food and my two love the hotel dog Red.There is a nice walk at the lake behind the hotel and a lovely outdoor terrace.
Other places to visit are The Strawberry Fields Pancake Cottage 🥞 located near the ring of Kerry overlooking Slievaduff Valley. Take a look at their website to see their delicious creations and cozy cottage feel decor.
We had grandparents with us on a recent visit so snuck off the the Boat House Bistro just outside Kenmare for a holiday date night. This is somewhere you would definitely bring the kids as well. There is a boat jetty with a little light house and it's set on a lake. They also provide glamping accommodation.. The decor always reminds me of a summer spent in cape cod and nantucket. Oh look! they also serve Gin...🙋🏻♀️
